I saw Marek again for an ultrasound steroid injection for my bursitis. He checked through my notes before arranging an appointment making sure this was ok. When I arrived he was friendly but very professional. He checked where my pain was and whilst injecting me kept asking how I was. After the procedure we chatted about alternative procedures for the future which was good. Would definitely recommend MarekPosted on Google![]()

In extreme pain following a rheumatic flare I desperately searched in vain for a steroid injection to my wrist through various NHS providers. In desperation I contacted Physio-Soton and was seen the next day. The service and results were second to none. I received an Ultrasound guided steroid injection and felt immediate relief and the joint has got better each day since. As most people under rheumatology know getting help quickly is almost impossible so this service is a lifeline for those in severe pain and I could not recommend it highly enough. Going from 10/10 pain to mild discomfort in the space of a day is remarkable and Physio-Soton will be the first port of call in future. I am forever grateful for the level of service and clinical expertise.Posted on Google![]()

Personally I've often been sceptical of reaching of for scans or therapy work due to poor past experiences, however I can say upon visiting Marek this is one of the few places I've been that offer a great service. Clear and direct feedback with open communication made the appointment flow smoothly. I'd highly recommend for anyone who's got some niggles or injures that just don't seem to be healing and you need to know/understand what's going on. ****** 6 stars as google only offers 5.Posted on Google![]()

Had a same week appointment with Marek to have an ultrasound on my ankle where I had concerns of a long ongoing achilles complaint. Marek was very thorough in his assessment and recommended exercises to help relieve. He also provided a thorough report and copies of the scans to share with my GP and NHS specialist I am under. Would definitely recommendPosted on Google![]()

I would highly recommend Marek. He’s very professional and approachable. I went to see him with shoulder pain. He did an ultrasound and then administered an injection. Went through everything really well so I knew what to expect during and after the procedure. I will definitely be seeing him again.Posted on Google![]()

I initially saw Marek after suffering a sporting injury to my right bicep, elbow and shoulder. He was referred to me by my chiropractor as I was keen to get an ultrasound as quickly as possible. Marek offered me a next day appointment and spent an hour conducting a full and thorough ultrasound of the soft tissue and joints in the affected areas. He was very reassuring and professional, taking his time to explain everything clearly and making sure I understood what he diagnosed. I left feeling much happier and with a clear understanding of what I needed to do to recover. A second follow up appointment built on the first, more reassurance and new exercises to help build up strength and confidence. Overall I would highly recommend Marek. He is calm, reassuring, professional and patient. Thank you!Posted on Google![]()

Extremely happy and impressed. For context, I am a 21 year old male who contacted Marek due to acromioclavicular joint issues due to weightlifting. He was able to book me in a few days from my phone call with him. All my questions were answered in a detailed and informative manner, and the aftercare was great as he phoned me later in the day after reviewing my ultrasound images. The most important thing to note is his moral integrity which I was so surprised with due to how many people are today. Because of my issue I thought I would need a joint injection, however he said for my case this would be unnecessary and potentially delay healing. This is surprising as many practitioners these days would advise having the injection merely to make a buck off of me. I really respect this honesty and truthfulness. Thanks very much.Posted on Google![]()

Thank you Marek! A comprehensive scan and explanation of my ankle issue with advice for self recovery and exercises moving forward. Most helpful. I would have no hesitation in recommending your service to others. Quick and easy to book an appointment online.Posted on Google![]()

Excellent experience with Marek at Physio-Soton. I came in with a long-running Achilles problem and he took a proper history, reviewed my training, tested the tendon thoroughly with Ultrasound — diagnosis, imaging and a clear rehab advice all in one visit. He was honest about what the findings meant for my running rather than telling me what I wanted to hear, and explained everything in plain terms. As a triathlete it's rare to find a physio who is also an MSK sonographer and genuinely understands training load. Highly recommended.Posted on Google![]()

I had an excellent experience with Marek following my car accident. From the initial phone call through to my appointment at the clinic, he was professional, well spoken, and took the time to explain everything clearly, which immediately put me at ease. He carried out a detailed ultrasound scan of my shoulder, and having access to advanced diagnostic equipment within the clinic meant the assessment was thorough and precise. He clearly explained the findings, what they meant, and the treatment options available, giving me a much better understanding of my injury. Marek is highly experienced, exceptionally knowledgeable, and genuinely focused on providing the best care for his patients. His professionalism, expertise, and attention to detail were outstanding. I would highly recommend Marek to anyone looking for an accurate diagnosis and first-class treatment.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust. If knee pain, stiffness or reduced mobility is affecting your everyday life, you may be looking for an effective non-surgical treatment for knee osteoarthritis.
KioMedine® one is a modern, single-injection medical device designed for the symptomatic treatment of knee osteoarthritis in adults. It is injected directly into the knee joint by an appropriately experienced healthcare professional.
For patients in Southampton, Eastleigh and across Hampshire, KioMedine may provide another treatment option to consider as part of a personalised approach to managing painful knee osteoarthritis.

[BOOK A KioMedine CONSULTATION]
KioMedine® one is a single-injection fluid implant designed to supplement the synovial fluid within an osteoarthritic knee.
It contains a specially developed form of carboxymethyl-chitosan (CM-chitosan), an animal-free biomaterial derived from button mushrooms.
The product is designed to:
improve lubrication within the knee joint
reduce friction between joint surfaces
help protect the synovial environment
provide symptomatic relief from knee osteoarthritis
KioMedine is a regulated medical device and should only be administered by an appropriately qualified healthcare professional experienced in intra-articular injections.
Knee osteoarthritis can cause much more than occasional discomfort.
You may experience:
Pain when walking
Pain when climbing or descending stairs
Knee stiffness
Difficulty getting up from a chair
Reduced ability to exercise
Pain after periods of activity
Difficulty with everyday activities
A feeling that your knee is becoming increasingly limiting
If conservative treatments have not provided enough relief, an injection-based treatment may be worth discussing with a suitably qualified clinician.
KioMedine is intended for adults with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis. Whether it is appropriate for you depends on your individual symptoms, diagnosis, medical history and examination.
The knee normally contains synovial fluid, which helps lubricate the joint and reduce friction.
With osteoarthritis, changes within the joint can affect this environment and contribute to pain, stiffness and reduced function.
KioMedine® one is designed to act within the joint by providing lubrication and reducing friction. Its CM-chitosan biomaterial also has properties intended to help protect the joint environment.
The aim is not simply to mask knee pain, but to support the joint environment while helping to relieve symptoms associated with osteoarthritis.
One of the features of KioMedine® one is that it is designed as a single intra-articular injection.
Your clinician will first assess your knee and discuss your symptoms, previous treatments and suitability for injection.
If KioMedine is considered appropriate, the treatment is administered directly into the knee joint.
Your clinician will explain what to expect before and after the procedure and provide personalised aftercare advice.
Your appointment should begin with a proper assessment rather than simply proceeding directly to an injection.
We will consider:
We will discuss where your pain is, when it occurs and how it affects your daily activities.
It is important to establish whether your symptoms are consistent with knee osteoarthritis and whether an injection is an appropriate treatment option.
We can discuss treatments you have already tried, including exercise, physiotherapy, medication or previous injections.
Treatment should be guided by what you want to achieve — whether that is walking more comfortably, returning to exercise, improving day-to-day mobility or managing symptoms while considering your longer-term options.
Your clinician will consider your medical history and whether there are any reasons why KioMedine may not be appropriate.
There are several different types of injection used in the management of knee pain and osteoarthritis.
These can include treatments such as corticosteroid injections, hyaluronic acid-based injections and other regenerative or biologic approaches.
KioMedine is different because it uses a proprietary carboxymethyl-chitosan biomaterial and is designed as a single-injection fluid implant.
There is no single injection that is right for every patient.
The most appropriate option depends on factors such as the severity and pattern of your osteoarthritis, your symptoms, previous treatments, general health and treatment goals.
During your consultation, we can discuss the available options and whether KioMedine is appropriate for you.
Clinical research has evaluated KioMedine® one in adults with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis.
The manufacturer reports results from clinical studies including the PIONEER study, with follow-up data published in Osteoarthritis and Cartilage Open in 2025.
The reported research has investigated changes in knee pain and other osteoarthritis symptoms following a single injection.
Importantly, individual results vary. Clinical evidence should be considered alongside a proper assessment of your knee rather than interpreted as a guarantee of a particular result.
Everyone responds differently to treatment.
Clinical information published by the manufacturer reports improvement in symptoms in some patients during the weeks following treatment, with benefits observed over longer follow-up periods in clinical studies.
Your clinician will discuss realistic expectations with you based on your individual circumstances.
KioMedine should not be viewed as a guaranteed cure for osteoarthritis.
The duration of benefit varies from person to person.
Clinical follow-up has assessed patients over periods of up to 12 months, with the manufacturer reporting sustained symptom improvement in some patients.
However, there is no way to guarantee how long an individual patient will experience benefit.
Your underlying osteoarthritis, activity levels, general health and other factors can all influence your symptoms over time.
Following treatment, you will receive specific aftercare advice.
The manufacturer’s patient information recommends avoiding intense physical activity and heavy loads for 48 hours after the injection, followed by a gradual return to normal use of the treated knee.
Regular appropriate exercise remains an important part of managing knee osteoarthritis.
If you develop persistent pain, significant swelling or other unusual symptoms following an injection, you should contact your healthcare professional.
No.
KioMedine is intended for adults with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis, but it is not appropriate for everyone.
The manufacturer’s information lists a number of contraindications and precautions, including certain allergies, infection or skin disease around the injection site, severe inflammation or synovitis, inflammatory arthritis, certain autoimmune or crystal diseases, significant vascular or blood disorders, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and being under 18.
This is why a proper clinical assessment is essential before treatment.

An injection is only one part of treating osteoarthritis.
A good treatment plan should consider the whole picture — your symptoms, diagnosis, physical function, previous treatment and longer-term goals.
Our approach is therefore focused on helping you understand:
What is causing your knee pain?
What treatments have you already tried?
What options are available to you now?
Could KioMedine be appropriate for your knee?
What should you consider for your longer-term joint health?
The aim is to give you clear, evidence-informed advice so you can make an informed decision about your treatment.
No. KioMedine® one uses carboxymethyl-chitosan rather than hyaluronic acid. It is designed as a fluid implant for symptomatic knee osteoarthritis.
Yes. KioMedine® one is designed to be administered as a single intra-articular injection into the affected knee.
It may be considered in some patients with more advanced or difficult-to-treat osteoarthritis, but suitability must be assessed individually. Having severe osteoarthritis does not automatically mean that KioMedine will be appropriate.
KioMedine is not a replacement for knee replacement surgery.
For some patients, non-surgical treatment may be appropriate to help manage symptoms. If knee replacement is clinically indicated, this should be discussed with an appropriate orthopaedic specialist.
There can be some discomfort associated with any knee injection. Your clinician will explain the procedure and the measures used to make treatment as comfortable as reasonably possible.
The manufacturer’s guidance recommends avoiding intense physical activity and heavy loads for 48 hours after the injection, followed by gradual use of the treated knee. Your clinician may provide additional advice based on your circumstances.
