Trigger Points - Punkty Spustowe

Trigger points

Trigger points are those painful knots that we often find right under the skin. They are located in the muscle or facia and cause a lot of referring type of pain and discomfort. Pain can be felt far from the trigger point as the source of pain is not always obvious. A therapeutic, deep, massage seems the best option for treatment, but therapy usually takes several weeks. Most patients respond well to therapy, especially when other soft tissue techniques are being utilised. What is causing trigger points? There are a few theories. The most plausible explanation seems to link trigger points to muscular overload of one sort or another including overexertion, overuse, posture and trauma. Patients with muscular tensions, structural issues, and nutritional deficiencies are said to suffer frequently from trigger points. Another theory says about stress and emotional state. Just think of all those times when you felt stressed, angry and tense; the likelihood is that you also felt aches in your body at the same time!

So, are you a sufferer and currently seeking help? You may like to start off by helping yourself at home and doing some really basic exercises and stretches. Applying pressure to affected areas and trigger points is key. What I also advise patients is so called muscle inhibition that can also bring immediate pain relief. Affected muscle are very often sore and need relaxing. A tennis ball, golf ball and foam rollers are perfect for self-help treatment!
