I spent some time over this interesting article by John Gibbons this morning trying to get my head around the concept of locked facet joints and how to identify the one that actually needs mobilizing. It is more complicated than you may think as the spine (thoracic and lumbar) rotates and side bends at the same time! And to complicate things further, according to Fryette and his first law (principle), the spine, when in neutral position, side bands to one side but rotates to the opposite side! All those spinal mechanics are important for therapist who wants to precisely target affected facet joints. I will keep learning…
