Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body. By stimulating these points, acupuncture is believed to promote healing and alleviate various physical and mental conditions, including pain, stress, and nausea. From a Western perspective, acupuncture may work by stimulating nerves, muscles, and connective tissue, leading to changes in pain perception and the release of natural pain-relieving chemicals in the body.

Dry Needling

Dry needling involves inserting thin needles (similar to acupuncture needles) into trigger points or tight bands of muscle tissue to stimulate a healing response. Unlike acupuncture, which is rooted in traditional Chinese medicine and focuses on restoring the flow of energy (qi) along meridians, dry needling is based on Western anatomical and neurophysiological principles. The goal is to release muscle tension, improve blood flow, and promote the body’s natural healing processes. It’s called “dry” needling because no medication or injection is used with the needles.

Electro Acupuncture

Electroacupuncture is a form of acupuncture where a small electric current is passed between pairs of acupuncture needles. Traditional acupuncture involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate and balance the flow of energy, known as qi. With electroacupuncture, these needles are connected to a device that generates continuous electric pulses. The intensity and frequency of the electric current can be adjusted by the practitioner. This method is believed to enhance the effects of traditional acupuncture by providing additional stimulation to the acupuncture points. Electroacupuncture is used to treat various conditions, including pain management, neurological disorders, musculoskeletal issues, and more. It’s thought to promote the release of endorphins, stimulate nerve fibers, and modulate the body’s natural healing processes.
